Spring Term 2024

Welcome to 2025 Barn Owls!

Mrs Heald and the Barn Owls team are excited to welcome you to a new year and new  learning. This year has some exciting topics and experiences in store and we are looking forward to exploring them together.

Our Christian Values

During the Autumn term, our Christian values are service, humility and trust.

As Christians we believe in service to God and others, helping with humility and not in search of reward. Barn Owls have built trusting relationships with each other and staff and as we move into the new year, surrounded by friends, we look forward to working together, playing together and supporting each other to be the best we can be.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. Peter 4:10

Our roles and responsibilities

***Photos coming soon!***

Meet our school councillors, sports councillors eco councillors and Beacons who were all democratically voted in by their peers. Our Beacon group support our school in developing Christian distinctiveness and promote our school Christian Values.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. - Matthew 5:16

Our class novel for this half-term will be chosen in a vote when we return after Christmas. Barn Owls will get to hear the 'blurb' from several books before voting for their favourite, democracy in action!

English

In our first half term we will be reading 'Escape from Pompei' by Christina Balit to develop our writing skills and write our own historical fiction from the viewpoint of one of the characters. In the second half term, we will continue our volcanic theme, this time writing a non-chronological report based on 'When the Giant Stirred' by Celia Godkin.

Our routine will include spelling and grammar, handwriting and guided reading sessions. Daily reading at home continues to be essential at KS2 and we would ask that you read regularly at home with your child to develop a love of reading, to develop new vocabulary and strengthen writing skills.Whilst listening to your child, ask questions about what has happened so far, characters thoughts and motives and make accurate predictions based on the text. As well as our guided reading and class reading sessions, we will endeavour to hear all our Barn Owls read at least once a week. Our Barn Owls use our class padlet to share what they are reading, make recommendations and develop our love of reading.

During the autumn term we will continue work on multiplication and division as well as fraction, decimals, length, perimeter, capacity and mass.

Science

As scientists, we aim to develop our knowledge and understanding, scientific skills and measuring and recording abilities. During the Spring term we will be investigating nutrition, the human skeleton and muscles.

Our whole school and class roundabout worships alongside our class reflection areas and partnerships with our local churches allow the children opportunities to explore our Christian values and develop their own thoughts, reflections and spirituality.
